What I REALLY think about Influencers

The stigma around “influencers”

is that pretty Instagram girls make a living off of sponsorships and free products, promoting brands and foods they might not even believe in- just because they are blessed with the life they have earned. Don’t get me wrong, an influencer in our age is more than just posting eye catching content that sells almost anything, it is about developing trust and a brand that reflects who you are. Everyone wants to be an influencer.

Disregard the money and unreal amount of PR package unboxing- what is really left over? Sure, everyone has their own definition of success and financial stability, but what about wellness and mental health?

I try to stay as genuine as I can on my socials, revealing the raw truth about what makes me who I am today. Sometimes authenticity does not get you far but I believe potential is recognized and rewarded in the long run. Everyone works hard to be where they are now. But where do you picture yourself to be in the future?

How do you see yourself as an influencer to not just your friends and family, but to yourself? Put aside the money for a moment and consider your well-being. Authenticity and a goal driven mindset takes you further than you could have ever imagined.

Acne Treatment: How to Clear Severe Allergic Reaction Acne on Face

I cleared my acne and hives in 4 days with these drugstore products.

As someone who loves all food, more specifically food leaning on the unhealthier side of the spectrum, I was pretty devastated and shocked  to find I was allergic to something I had ate. From the corn puff snacks to sashimi, I am still not too sure what exactly caused the hives and allergic reaction acne. Admittedly I had munched on a variety of goods. I am usually not one to let my physical appearance stop me from doing things, but this was the worst my skin has ever been and I needed to find an immediate solution. Whatever the cause of my reaction was, this is how I healed my breakout within a week! MY TOP SKIN CARE EMERGENCY PRODUCTS:

1. CETAPHIL DAILY FACIAL CLEANSER

For a couple years now I’ve been using Cetaphil’s Daily Facial Cleanser. I tend to have combination skin and this gentle cleanser does the trick! For someone who wears makeup everyday, this lathering wash removes all of it off easily… That’s why it’s been a staple! Never dries out my skin. https://amzn.to/2St1Edi

2. NEUTROGENA OIL FREE ACNE STRESS TONER

This is especially helpful for treating infection directly, as it targets superficial debris that may lead to clogged pores. This topical treatment toner is quite drying, but does the trick when your body is producing more oil than usual! Whenever it has been an especially long day, I use this toner to deep clean and remove excess oils and dirt that have been building up. Also acts as an exfoliant! Be careful and use this stuff in moderation though, it does tend to dry out your skin. This is what I found most useful for the allergic reaction acne.

3. CLEARASIL VANISHING ACNE TREATMENT

It’s exactly what it is. An acne treatment that dries out pimples throughout the day, reducing the spot if not getting rid of it entirely. The only downside of this cream is that you have to remember to reapply it throughout the day as it dries. https://amzn.to/2Pkk7Xs

4. MARIO BADESCU DRYING LOTION

Similar to the Clearasil Spot Treatment, the Mario Badescu drying lotion is a little more potent and is an overnight treatment for whiteheads. A gentle dab and rinse the next morning, your pimples are gone! Definitely a lifesaver.

5. TRETINOIN CREAM

This last cream was a true treasure prescribed by my doctor! This topical treatment worked by irritating the first layer of the skin, allowing the cells to grow, divide, and rebuild a new layer. Amazing stuff! If you have trouble with acne and stubborn spots, ask your doctor about this treatment.

MOST IMPORTANTLY…

– Hydrate with lots of green tea and water

– Take antihistamines

With professional medical permission and help, antihistamines do tend to help allergic reactions. Personally, taking Benadryl reduced the swelling but did not get rid of the acne that the reaction left, which is why I resorted to this skincare routine.

And that wraps up my top skincare products that saved my skin after this uncalled for and super unfortunate allergic reaction mess. Good luck, I hope this helps if any of you come across this situation!

Evil and An Omnipotent God: How to Become Part of His Elected Few

To believe there is an existence of a great, all knowing, and powerful God provides us with the faith that evil is surmountable.

Yet if the reality of such an absolute being is present throughout our life, we must consider the presence of evils in our life, and why God has allowed them to remain.

Why do unexpected deaths occur? Why are injustices present within our government? Why does God allow such evils?

With these common tragedies and personal struggles, it is likely to assume that evil exists, despite the presence and power of an omnipotent God. Within each individual’s journey, hardships that often become origins of self uncertainty and suspicion of faith, coincide with the belief that an almighty and divine being carries the power of eliminating evils present in the world.

To a certain extent, some may believe that these horrors can be a sign of destroying or removing evils. This encourages the idea that God chooses to allow various evils for justified reasons. God’s divinity and goodness can create possibilities of defeating selected evils, on a global scale, but is unable to defeat the evils within one’s personal life. Why?

I believe that God allows certain evils to be present in each person’s life to build strength in faith and feel a deeper connection to Him. Though we cannot control the amount of evils that we run into in life, it is a glorified idea that there is an elected few in which God gives a good life, where sufferings are tolerable and endurable. This “chosen” life is not HIS choice, but ours. Those who CHOOSE to be faithful to His word. It is all about your mindset. This doesn’t apply to solely religion, but in every aspect of your life, you have the power to make your decisions. To fight off the evils present in your life, with either God’s guidance or your personal strength and spirituality.

It may seem unreasonable for God to present evils in a person’s life as they search for their meaning, but I believe His true purpose is to build their relationship with Him. Though it seems to be illogical for both a wholly God and evil to exist, a test of faith and arising intimacy with God is the ultimate purpose.

Living a Meaningful Life: Redefine Your Story

WHAT IS A MEANINGFUL LIFE?

It’s not just about trying to be happy.

facetune_20-06-2018-22-00-06

“Redefine your story by redemption, growth,  and love.”

From Emily Esfahani Smith’s Ted Talk, “There’s More to Life Than Being Happy”

Considering the perpetual society we live in, we tend to neglect the present moment and instead constantly strive for the ideal future. Admittedly, this realization only came to mind recently when I experienced loss in life- a true test of purpose and meaning. I had previously lived my life constantly working and going to class, saving up and striving towards a glorified future. This future consisted of a specified money goal, a change in career and location, and pure happiness. With only the future and a seemingly unattainable bliss in mind, I paid no attention to my current mental well being or the state of happiness I was in. Emily Esfahani Smith’s lecture, “There’s More to Life Than Being Happy” truly hit home as I could relate to the bold pillars of a meaningful life.

4 PILLARS OF MEANING

1. BELONGING – develop relationships

2. PURPOSE – focus on the moments leading to your goals

3. TRANSCENDENCE – What moments bring you existential happiness

4. STORYTELLING – Redefine your story

“Happiness comes and goes… Having meaning gives you something to hold on to.”

There is more to life than being happy. Smith discussed the 4 major pillars of a meaningful life to be: belonging, purpose, transcendence, and storytelling.

With this structure in mind, I became aware of the imbalance of these 4 factors and prioritized my efforts on having a sole purpose in life, which was to earn money and a degree. Money and a degree were the gateway to happiness, and thus a meaningful life. Truthfully, this thought still lingers, but it would be an unrealistic expectation to digest the grandness of the meaning of life at once. I believe Smith’s 4 pillars provides an ethical resolution to defining the meaning of life, yet it lacks the difficulty of finding a balance between each.

As I noted before, I prioritized having a purpose compared to building valuable relationships or redefining my important experiences to change the direction of my life. Part of this incessant drive towards a better future led me to forget the present moment and life that was passing in front of me. I had lost chances and time in my life to find happiness with the situation I was in. After experiencing loss, I noticed that life is shorter than expected and the time we have is valuable. Despite the feeling of unfulfillment in my life now, I should continue to cherish the other aspects such as developing relationships or shaping a new perspective on life. Valuing the time in the present moment and changing the way you look at your current situation, whether it is bad or good, is how to live a meaningful life.

I NEED A BREAK! 3 Tips to Recharging and Resting Your Mind

Processed with VSCO with ku8 preset

Hope you are all enjoying your 3 day weekend before it’s back to work! I’ve had quite the relaxing weekend spent at home, recharging for the upcoming week. This past week involved a huge focus on mental health and glorifying solitude. Often, when things go wrong I turn to work to keep myself occupied. I block out my feelings and keep moving forward. Don’t get me wrong, moving forward is essentially what is best, but not allowing myself to digest emotions and feelings in the present is not the way to go! Shaping your mind and allowing yourself the time to process feelings is a must, so here are my top 3 tips on how I rest my mind and recharge.

1. DISCONNECT YOURSELF FROM SOCIAL MEDIA

Honestly, I love Instagram. 100%. Hands down, it is my favorite and most frequently used. I’m obsessed. Often I find myself scrolling over the same posts and stories I’ve already seen! Terrible, I know. Soo…. to combat this insane obsession, I picked up a strategy from the amazing photographer and boss queen Jessica Whitaker (https://www.instagram.com/jessicawhitaker) and delete all my social media apps before I go to bed and reinstall them a few hours into the day. Granted, I don’t do this every single day, but I do try my best. Another way is to simply put your phone down when you’re out with loved ones! Be present!

2. UNWIND WITH MUSIC & CLEANING

Okay, this one sounds a bit strange, I know. Who wants to clean?! Me. LOL! I’m a huge supporter of a clean space and working environment. I believe that an organized work space is just a visual motivator for you to continuously maintain things as they are. Whether you work from home or in an office- a less cluttered work space really reflects through your work and attitude. The music part is a bonus… throw on your favorite jams and get to cleaning!

3. HAVE YOUR ALONE TIME

We live in a society where everyone is connected 24/7 through Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook- all of it! When I’m lonely I tend to completely immerse myself in all of these platforms… because the beauty of the internet is that you are truly never alone! Although I am grateful to be surrounded by friends and family through social media, it’s necessary to have time alone just to give your mind a rest. Use this time to get work done, watch your favorite show, online shop… whatever makes you happy!

And there we have it folks. I really hope these simple tips inspires you to take the time out of your day to really care for your mind and wellness.

OUR SPOT: Online Wellness Community and Networking Nook

MODEST NOOK: OUR SPOT

Hi everyone! I have been in and out of social media lately, truthfully confused with my personal life and what direction I’m headed in. I constantly picture my future… Living in a house, working a stable job, and just purely happy. Lately the motivation to get there has been fading. I have always been one to neglect certain aspects of my life while I’m focused on another- always trying to find a balance. I feel like once we realize life always has its ups and downs, we should aim to keep moving forward and work with what we have in the present moment.

Create, share, reflect, grow.

All of this being said, I am ecstatic to grow and share my new project with all of you, our special spot. OUR SPOT is an online wellness community and networking nook of creatives that aims to integrate the necessity of caring for mental health into our continuous progress towards our goals and future. ANNIE, a series

I’ve been incredibly MIA from my blog lately. Truthfully, struggling on the direction and development of my brand but I’m gradually getting there! Learning to produce quality content that I’m truly satisfied with has been challenging, but the process of it all makes me happy. Still making sure to work hard and still have fun. It’s not about finding balance in your life but accepting that there will be ups and downs! Life is unpredictable.

Here are some lovely shots of one of my good friends, Annie! If you see this, I love you and I am grateful for having you around through my hard times.

CREATE WITH PASSION

CREATEWPASSION.jpg

Day 7 into 2018 and it has already been an incredible start. I left off 2017 with great friends, both old and new, as well as better work habits that I accumulated throughout the end of the year. I hardly follow any clear cut resolutions but instead set out small, attainable goals. One of the goals is to create with passion, rather than generate frequent posts with less effort. Quality over quantity.

HOW I PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL

is to focus on my interests and what inspires me. It’s easy to throw out content just to provide you with something to read, but this can become a horrible habit! Hopefully I’ll be able to create content that is interesting and helpful for times in need of fashion and wellness advice!

FINDING A NICHE

has been one of my biggest struggles with blogging, as I have many interests and feel limited if I structure everything into a single category. I am getting to know myself further every day and discovering what I love to share with you or what I don’t quite like. For now, my posts will be related to fashion, photography, wellness, and weekly favorites.

QUALITY OVER QUANTITY

or QUANTITY WITH QUALITY will be my goal for these upcoming months. Granted, I’m sure there will be days where I go MIA, but I am definitely going to try my best to push out more content that I genuinely love and am proud of.

Thank you for sticking with me through another year. Hope you all had an amazing start to 2018. Here’s to growing together!

MY NIGHTLY FAVORITES: SKINCARE PRODUCTS AND VITAMINS

It is well known for the skin to dry out as the winter months approach, and the humidity levels drop. Lately, my skin has been feeling especially dry, leaving a flaky and rough texture around my nose and cheeks. Rather than avoiding this, I’ve adopted this simple routine to ensure my skin stays moisturized and soft in the winter months. Regardless, everyone has varied skin types. This is what works for me!

NIGHT RITUALS GRAPHIC

1. CETAPHIL DAILY FACIAL CLEANSER

Changing up your face wash is absolutely essential as the seasons change, as the weather shifts from hot to cold. Observe the physical changes in your skin- if your skin tends to build up more oil in the summer, look for an oil free face wash. I absolutely love Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple cleanser, which tends to work for all skin types. On the other hand, if your skin tends to flake in the winter, find a cleanser that will re-moisturize your skin. This fall/winter I have been hooked to Cetaphil’s Daily Facial cleanser, because of it’s gentle cleansing capabilities while still removing all of the excess makeup and dirt. It leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean, while not stripping away the natural oils!

2. GLAM GLOW SUPER MUD CLEARING TREATMENT

Next up, EXFOLIATE! I’ve stressed how important exfoliating is, but I cant express how necessary it is in the dry winter months! Designed for men and women, this mud mask leaves your skin visibly pore-less after one use. I have been using this product 3x a week and noticed a huge improvement in the texture of my forehead and nose, where I have the biggest pores. I have to admit I was gifted this product by my good friend (THANK YOU JIAOJIAO!!), and it’s value is quite pricey, but I would probably buy it again after I hit empty. This mask also does wonders for those massive pimples that you wish could reduce overnight.

3. PHILOSOPHY MIRACLE WORKER

The reason why I tend to rave about Philosophy is because of how versatile all of their products are, regarding skin types. Philosophy’s Anti-Wrinkle Miracle Worker has been a favorite of mine this winter due to its ability to thoroughly replenish my skin’s natural moisture, without feeling a heavy layer on my face. This product is meant for managing wrinkles however it is a creamier consistency to use in the winter, as the skin becomes drier.

4. MEDERMA GEL SCAR TREATMENT

Following the cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing, I like to apply Mederma’s gel formulated scar treatment to my acne prone areas and scars, old and new. Admittedly, I don’t apply this every night because I don’t enjoy sleeping with too many products on my face, however I have been using this quite frequently after seeing the results. I have had a large patch of acne scars on my left cheek for quite a while now, and decided to try out Mederma after hearing the raging reviews. The main reason why I’ve added this product to my nightly favorites is because it has reduced a majority of the discoloration on my cheeks due to scarring. My scars have not completely vanished, but Mederma has helped a ton!

IMG_2375.JPG

5. VITAMINS!

The last element to my fall/winter night time rituals has been taking my daily vitamins! These are some of the vitamins I tend to take regularly, however the ones I make sure to never skip out on would be Vitamin D and C! Vitamin D is essential in allowing the body to absorb calcium which leads to healthy bone growth. As for vitamin C, it is important to protect your body from immune system deficiencies during the cold winter months. Stock up!

If you would like a more in depth post about the vitamins I consume daily, leave me a comment!
